Fuel pump question.

My 88 MJ appear to have been sitting for 7 or 8 years, I thought I should make sure tank and lines were clean. The line from the pump to the harness was junk. From pictures I've seen there should be a boot at the bottom of the fuel return lines, its gone. How important is it and does anyone know of a replacement?
