kansashogan
I have had a leak on the passenger side for years and had it narrowed down to being inside the cowl but I just couldn’t get to it to see what was leaking. I was taking parts off the Comanche I am parting out and had an idea. I took a sawzall and cut the cowl out to see what was inside. The opening for the blower motor has some spray foam stuff around a “chimney” if you can call it that. Now that I knew what was leaking I made a sheet metal dam to block water from going to that side and siliconed it real good. It would have been a huge project to take the dash and everything out to replace the foam. I will wash it in a day or two and report if I fixed it or not
Minuit
This is pretty much how the factory gasket is supposed to work before 30+ years of rot turned it to dust. As long as there aren't any gaps it should do the job just fine. If you still see leaks, the blower motor gasket at the firewall, HVAC pipe gasket, and the antenna are all very leak prone. They leak under the carpet though, which makes them harder to find.
kansashogan
I have fixed the three spots you mentioned. I could pour a glass of water inside the cowl and it would start streaming in immediately. These trucks can be frustrating at times. I’m somewhat confident this may have fixed it.
