Engine bay wire help

Does anybody have any idea on what these cables plug into?

As far as I know, many vehicles rolled off the factory without all the extra stuff but it was easier for the factory just to include the wires and expect for the customers to ignore the wires not connected to anything.

Last 2 pictures are the same wires from different angles.

in AMC's infinite genius the wire harnesses were built for multiple trim levels and they just left the extra wires dangling around if not needed on that particular truck.

If the production volumes for a particular suite of options was low enough, the cost of making a special wiring harness might be more than just throwing in the wires and connectors into all vehicles.    AMC was, in general, making a whole lot less cars than the "big three" back when they were around, so this is probably their logic (and is probably backed up by some bean-counter's analysis.)

I'm not doubting the logic of a universal harness,   I'm mad that the ends just dangle about in the engine bay.

When they are dangling, I just tie wrap them to the parent wiring harness to keep them out of the way as best as I can.
