AMC86Kid
Ok guys I’m putting my dash back in today and I was needing to check all the gauges to see if they work and most importantly I needed to get the rpm gauge to work so that I can set the timing correctly does anyone have any info or links on the RPM gauge or gas gauge I know mine don’t currently work right now

AMC86Kid
Ok so my volt gauge works so I know the plug in the back of the instrument cluster must be hooked up correctly but my rpm gauge just redlines the whole time and my mph gauge wobbles a lot and stays around 15 the whole time
eaglescout526
Possible there is something wrong in the speedo cable.

Eagle
Mt red '88 MJ Chief has the "3/4" gauge cluster, with gauges but a large gas gauge instead of a tachometer. The previous owner had strapped a 2" Sun tach to the steering column. It worked, but it was too small for my liking -- I use the tachometer much more than I use the speedometer. I replaced the 2" with a 3.x" Sun Super tach. It looked a lot like this one -- and in fact may be the same thing under a different name: https://www.autozone.com/gauges-and-gauge-accessories/tachometer/equus-black-3-3-8in-tachometer-gauge/255933_0_0
AMC86Kid
Ok so I bought a Equus Tach and I'm looking at the instructions it says to connect the signal wire from the tach to the negative wire of the coil so my question to you guys is which wire is that ? AMC86Kid
I called the 1-800 number on the box and the guy said that the negative terminal is the green wire with the white line on it I guess i will hook it up and see and see if it works
AMC86Kid
I’m also wondering about where those two wires go to, the thicker yellow wire must be positive and both wires come from the main electrical harness but where do they lead too ?
AMC86Kid
Does anyone know where the three leads behind the gas gauge are suppose to connect to ?
AMC86Kid
Figured it out with this video his gauge and fuel sending unit works and looks very similar to jeeps
AMC86Kid
So the two wires from the ignition coil feed into the main wire harness but does anyone know were they go too ?
AMC86Kid
Guess I will just rip the main wire harness apart and see where they go to
