91'che
Hello everyone! I'm new to the Comanche Club, I recently picked up a 1991 Comanche. She's in need of a fair bit of love, but it runs!(ish). I was hoping i could jot down some of the issues shes having and maybe get some guidance on what to do! I AM working through what I can with whatever answers i can dig up on the forums, but I'm a bit stumped. First off, some info about the 'Che: 1991 4.0, AX15, Np231j, D30/D35, 7' Box Issues that are currently beating me like a dead horse, and what remedies ive tried in brackets: 1.Ignition cylinder comes out of the steering column. the key will NOT come out of the cylinder unless it is pulled out and turned by hand. BUT, the cylinder won't go back into the column unless the key is in it, and its in the ACC position. ( fiddled around with it any which way i could, cannot figure out the trick) 2.Wicked idle issues. Long cranking time, then stumbling idle that slowly drops down to 300ish RPM, almost stalls then surges into high idle for about 5 seconds, then slow drop. Applying throttle results in hesitation, and unless feathered ever so gently, will stall out the engine. (IAC and TPS are brand new, TB clean, IAC manifold clean) 3. Cluster does not light up beyond the left signal light, But I'm assuming thats just bulbs. Assuming theres nothing else waiting for me. 4. Quite a few unplugged ends under the hood and botched wiring. Is there a 1991 wiring diagram floating around? Will there be one in a haynes manual? 5. Cab corners are fairly rusted out, Is there a Canadian source for sheet metal replacements? as well as floors? That's all about I can list as 'critical' right now, but I'm sure ill be back with more questions. ANY and ALL information, advice and resources will be greatly appreciated! Also, if anyone in BC or AB has a long box MJ they want to part out, please get ahold of me !
MiNi Beast
Check fuel pressure, crank sensor, typical tune up routine. Get a haynes manual for sure as will be a good aide. Also recheck tps and ensure set properly. All i got off top of my head. Others will chime in. Welcome to the club eh!

How do I go about setting the TPS properly? The few references I found to setting a TPS were on the remix era Comanche's, so I'm at a loss there. Thanks for the welcome, I'm beyond excited to get this girl going! Already had a blast sputtering it off the trailer and up the driveway haha! eaglescout526
The ignition cylinder is missing it’s screw that holds it in place. There’s a lever in the column that you are supposed to push down with a couple of your fingers on your right hand while simultaneously rotating the ignition to you. That will allow you to remove the key while keeping the ignition lock in the column. Welcome to a GM Saginaw steering column.

Should be a fun thing to correct 🙄
91'che
Got ahold of the PO, he said he replaced the fuel regulator, fuel filter, IAC and TPS. So that takes a few items off the list!
