2.5 engine/transmission swap.

Mine. 1986 Comanche. 2.5, non air  conditioning. 5 speed, 4x4, throttle body injection.

Posible bad head gasket,  clutch is toast due to leaking front transmission seal.

Donor 1985 Cherokee. 2.5, 5speed 4x4 , with air conditioning,  carburetated. Motor rebuild recently. 

Question. Since my 86 is having clutch and head gasket issues and no air conditioning. I was looking into swapping the 2.5 with the 5 speed transmission and install air conditioning system into my 86. And keep my throttle  body intake. 

And yes i would love to install a 6 cylinder.  But I don't want to go buy one since I already have the doner.

Your thoughts. Good and bad.

Should be just a direct swap. Course the present issues you have are also easy fixes without swapping a whole engine and you can add AC to your current engine as well.

Yes, i know that I could install a.c. to my system.  But...

My truck has the old 2 v belts. Not a serpentine belt. The 85 has the serpentine, plus the harmonic pulley plus the a.c. brackets, pump etc etc. Thank you for your response.

Try sourcing parts for a 4.2L for the V-belt stuff if you need such. I noticed that some stuff are shared between the two engines in the parts catalogue. 

Just trying to help ya save some pennies. Going serp is an option.

The 85 donor truck was a towed behind an RV. But then someone decided to shove the rear axle forward about 2 feet. Its been a great parts truck for $400.00.
