Rear Leaf Springs - Ranger vs. Comanche

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if someone smarter than me can explain why I shouldn't use 1750 lb Ranger leaf springs instead of 1700 comanche leaf springs to replace my current leaf springs. Here are the links and specs for each. The reason I ask is the Ranger springs are $130 and the Comanche springs are $250. The A/B measurements, the leaf pack breakout and the pack thickness are slightly different, but I don't see how these would affect anything drastically. The only thing I'm not sure on is the difference in arc between the two. Any advice or opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

Comanche: https://www.generalspringkc.com/product_p/97-571.htm

  • # Leaves = 5(3/2)
  • Measures (A/B) = 26 x 31
  • Pack Thickness (D) = 2-1/8
  • Includes Bushings
  • Sold Per Side - Order Quantity 2 For a Pair

The arch is dramatically different the Ranger is spring over axle whereas the Comanche is spring under axle

Just probably 3 and 1/2 to 5 inch difference in Arch

Thanks! That solves that question. Does anyone know of a rear leaf spring from another vehicle that has a similar arch and length / width dimensions that can be used in place of a Comanche specific leaf spring?

Does this just mean less lift? So this would be an option for anyone looking to lower their MJs?

I will commend socomanche for bothering to look around, at least.

Yes, to answer your question.

I recently recommended Nissan Frontier springs to one of the low-riders here who did the drop-block routine.

Another option would be to go SOA with a flat spring, you may end up with 3.5-4" of lift instead of 6-8'' of lift. What's the benefit? IDK, but at least you can center the wheel in the tub without worrying about the tire/wheel travel fore to aft.........that's such a line of BS anyway...........(Hell Creek's crap IIRC or Rusty's or....)

Jeep people have been so conditioned to the "kit" mindset that.........well.........I just shrug anymore.
