  1. I bought some bucket seats and harnesses off amazon and turned mine into a four seater. Not sure about the legality of it all, but my 8 and 10 year old love it. I take them on short grocery, pool and sports practice runs. I think it’s legal in Colorado, but the ticket is only $35 if it’s not. Police have seen the kids in it and let us keep on driving. The kids get periodically photographed by other drivers that either think it’s cool or poor parenting. The MJ is a fun family vehicle. Hold onto it!
  2. I turned my Comanche into Santa’s sleigh. By day, I plug Santa and some light strands into a 120 volt inverter plugged into my lighter socket. By night it’s plugged into the timer outlet for our house lights. My wife is embarrassed by all these shenanigans, but the dudes of the neighborhood love it.
  3. Here's the link on Amazon. Unfortunately, it's unavailable right now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2XD7V4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. Thought I'd throw up a pic of the snowmanche after some front range CO snow last night. Just need to get it out in the snow now to see how it handles.
  5. Thanks! That solves that question. Does anyone know of a rear leaf spring from another vehicle that has a similar arch and length / width dimensions that can be used in place of a Comanche specific leaf spring?
  6. I'm wondering if someone smarter than me can explain why I shouldn't use 1750 lb Ranger leaf springs instead of 1700 comanche leaf springs to replace my current leaf springs. Here are the links and specs for each. The reason I ask is the Ranger springs are $130 and the Comanche springs are $250. The A/B measurements, the leaf pack breakout and the pack thickness are slightly different, but I don't see how these would affect anything drastically. The only thing I'm not sure on is the difference in arc between the two. Any advice or opinions are appreciated. Thanks! 7. Since I put the pre-runner bumper on and did some spray painting, I've done some more stuff on the cheap (don't cringe!). Just to make sure it's still a Comanche at heart, I took it into the mountains this past weekend, and I can confirm that it does just fine climbing and descending several thousand feed and many miles at highway speeds while also releasing its beastly capabilities in 4 wheel low on high altitude rocky dirt roads. The kids loved the bed seats on the trail. Unfortunately (well, fortunately, actually), riding in the bed at highway speeds is frowned upon by their mom. * roof rack (Apex rack $25 on amazon) * roof rack wind fairing (aluminum strips from the garage) * 4 LED lights mounted in the wind fairing (lights and wiring harness from Amazon $50) * front skid plate ($80 w/ shipping from team cherokee) * bed rack (not intended to hold up as a roll bar - plumbing piping / other metal from home depot - didn't track the cost, but guessing around $175 ish when it was all said and done) * soft top from a jeep wrangler ($20 on craigslist) * bed extender (PVC, random metal, swivel wheels from home depot - about $30) * hood hinge spacers for extra ventilation (coupling nuts from home depot - about $4) * hood vents ($16 for two pairs on amazon) * paint rims (plasti-dip from walmart) * bucket seats and harnesses in the bed (seats $40 apiece on amazon, harnesses $25 apiece on amazon, metal from home depot - about $50) * other random stuff like strapping and old disc brake rotors from bikes
  8. Good call. I’ll try to figure this out.
  9. There were three bolts already coming down on the front of the frame, so if you have these, slide the front of the skid plate mount right on those. Two were offset a bit from the third, so slide the plate on so it’s centered on the truck. From there, swing the back of the plate up towards the engine, and the side mount holes will line right up with holes in the frame. My side mounts arrived a little bent inward so I bent them out to make them align.
  10. For mine, the pre-existing holes in the frame lined up exactly with the plate mount holes. I'll take some pictures in case it's helpful.
  11. Home depot / already had. The bolts for the side holes are 3/8, and the bolts for the front of the skid plate mount were already on the truck. Note, they were metric (M8), so I had to get the nuts at Home Depot.
  12. I don't know if anyone else has come across this, but my speedometer would constantly, rapidly fluctuate across about a 10 mph range ever since I got my commanche a year ago. I installed a front skid plate (http://teamcherokee.com/front-sway-bar-skid-plate-oem-jeep-cherokee-1984-2001/) on it last night, and the speedomoter is now completely stable even going down the highway. It's a nice little improvement care of dumb luck.
  13. I'm with you on thinking it wasn't bad. $71 in total with shipping. Hopefully, shipping was free from Rusty's, so you're only at 1.8169014084507042253521126760563x times better than the OEM.
  14. Does anyone know where to get a front skid plate for an '87?
  15. I used red fish hooks to temporarily hold up my drooping red headliner in a few spots. The fabric rubbing against my head was making my morning hairdo unprofessional on my drive into work.
  16. I guess I might as well post what came to be when I pulled the front bumper off... This is the product of a new bumper from affordable offroad ( https://affordableoffroad.com/shop/affordable-prerunner-front-bumper-jeep-cherokee-xjcomanche-84-01/ ), some rear fender flares from 88mjsally, some matte slate spray paint, some burnt copper spray paint, and some spray on bedliner (please don't judge my excessive use of the cheap paint option).
  17. I tracked down a picture that has a decent shot of the front bumper for visualization.
  18. Well, then, I guess I'll get to posting...
  19. Scroll down in the thread to see a pic of the original bumper on the truck and some pics of the truck post bumper pull. As a side note, I've got the original front bumper with mounting brackets, end guards and license plate mount for sale for $40 + shipping if anyone is interested. It's black without dents. A pic is in the post below. I'm located in the Denver area, so pickup is an option if you're local. I'm posting this in the Pub because the Classifieds was not a selectable option.
