Door latch issue

My drivers side door latch is literally falling off. Anyone felt with this and if so, what steps did you take to fix it. I don’t want to just start cutting stuff before what some of you have done.  Thanks in advance

Been there! On my first MJ it was totally missing.

I made a sandwich with plate steel,  grade 8 bolts and some thread taps.

Not pretty, but it still works great 4 years later. Full read on page 1 of that thread:
