Kyleinreallife
Symptoms: recently started having a very low idle, wants to stall, sometimes does. Only happens at starting temps (won’t die if I’ve been driving and come to a stop light). When I got it, it didn’t pass smog. There was an egr from a Pontiac Le Mans and a map sensor with a GM logo on it. Put a new egr and cat and passed smog. Then it started running funky, high idle, shifting issues. So I replaced the tps. Got it to run better and left it like that for a bit. Then it started sounding really lopey at idle and smells really rich. I replaced the map and o2 sensors as well as the iac and vac lines. Also replaced: plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Getting frustrated and don’t want to take it to a shop bc they’re just going to charge me my first born to load up their own parts canon. Kind of at a loss on what to do. The kicker is that how it runs is always random..at highway speed (2000+ rpm) it runs smooth, but slightly underpowered—partially, PARTIALLY, due to gearing. At idle and on the way to 2k rpm....well it just depends on how she’s feeling that day, sometimes it seems fine, other times...well it died as I was backing out of a parking spot twice today. dvitha
Did you do the ground refresh and updates? Also Check out the o2 relay and the wiring at the relay. Clean those connections up good on your relay plug and the plug that the o2 connects too ( look for burns on wire from exhaust). A lot of the time a New o2 will make it run better temporary , but if it is not getting good connection your heater will not be on fully( at idle is when your o2 heater is on it needs to get it to 600 degrees to allow adjustment of the fuel ratio). low voltage or high resistance will make a low idle, plus rich, and crappy idle. Take a look at your IAC next to your tps. Make sure it is nice and clean in side so that it can adjust your idle correct. If it is a 87, or 88 with the c101, you need for sure to clean it up in side. Best to take the c101 out and wire it direct.

Also I’ll look into the relay
Kyleinreallife
Also, would someone be able to tell me the locations of vital relays and their functions? There’s a relay cluster on the passenger wheel well but I haven’t messed with it bc I’m not sure what each does.87 XJ Wagoneer Ltd I-6 NP242 AW4 HPD30/D44
dvitha
there are 3 to 4 relays under the hood on passenger side. furthest back on passenger side is your o2 heater relay. then your fuel relay is in front of that, and then latch relay in front of that, then if you have a/c the a/c relay. The three main relays all interchangeable relays.
