I need to know if there is way to Identify the year on my 5 speed manual Transmission. The Truck is 1988 but may have a 1987.

In 1987 the AX5 used different input bearings and used both the snap ring and nut option on the end of the countershaft. From 1988-2002 the AX5 came stock with the 23mm wide input bearing and the snap ring on the countershaft.

Thanks

Far as I know the cases are essentially the same, except some kind of switch in the rear output in the late 90s.

I'm not sure how to tell the difference unless a part number is still visible.

So you have a 4cyl with a 5speed?

If you do, for sure ax5 but from 87-92 1/2 were internal slave

And from 92 1/2-01 were external slave...

You can install but will need a clutch kit/slave cylinder kit from that model era trans to swap to external slave
