Exhaust Manifold Replacement

Recommended Posts

So as stated in my previous post, I'm about to replace my down pipe, muffler, cat, and tail pipe due to rust and holes etc. 1989 Pioneer 4.0 5 speed manual. Thinking now that I'm replacing everything else, I should replace my manifold while i'm at it. Looking online for pricing and it's a bit expensive compared to everything else. I found stainless steel headers for way cheaper but they say they are for a 91-95 (or something) Wrangler and Cherokee. Cheaper and better looking.

Will other 4.0L exhaust manifolds fit on our MJs 4.0, without heavy modifications?

Unfortunately, without modding HO manifold for EGR no others will fit. Otherwise, plug n pray with a little massaging of intake manifold to bolt in.

You should be able to find a manifold on ebay or other for a reasonable price.

If you don't, I might be able to part with my spare new renix manifold for the right price.

Like Crash said, if you don't have emissions testing in your state you can get rid of your EGR. If you do have emission testing and you go with a newer (non Renix) exhaust manifold you will have to adapt the EGR tube to the new system as well as the O2 sensor bung. All you need to run the newer HO manifold or header is the HO downpipe.
