  1. Awesome. I'm planning on replacing the entire exhaust system because it's full of holes, I'm sure it won't sure it, but it'll sound better I'm sure. Thanks all.
  2. https://youtu.be/iISYM6Tx2Gs Tell me what you think, please. I also have bad exhaust leaks, but I'm sure it's more than that.
  3. Thank you everyone. Eagle, I'll get a video of my engine running for a sound comparison. Hopefully it won't be to bad. I'll post it as soon as possible.
  4. 158k approximately. Previous owner broke the speedometer cable so not sure exactly how many miles, but I fixed it and that's what it says now.... I had the internal engine professionally cleaned with run rite about 5 years ago. Have always used full synthetic Valvoline with Max Life. 5qts plus a bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer. 10W30 usually. Not sure if the oil pressure gauge has ever worked. It's usually around 20? At idle. About 40 on the highway. That's always concerned me but others have said that's normal for us.
  5. Would it be beneficial to replace the pushrods and rockers while I have it all apart or just replace the lifters. I really don't want to replace the camshaft.
  6. So I'm not doing anything at the moment but I am planning on removing the valve cover on my 4.0 and pushing down on the rockers to see if I might have a shot lifter. I have the tick sound that plagues our Comanches. Pretty much all the time. Sounds like a diesel engine. You know the drill. So I figured I'd start there. I have read pretty much everywhere online and even in my Haynes manual that it's important to put push rods and rocker arms back in the same spot they came from. I'm the kind of guy that likes to replace everything while I'm in there so I don't have to go back in there. I found a set of push rods and lifters for like $65.00 on eBay. I've never done this, and am wondering if it's important to put the rods back in the same spot, then can I put in new ones? I have read also that I do not have to replace the cam if replacing the lifter, but I would have to replace lifters if replacing cam. I don't want to mess with the cam. Sorry for such a long post. 1989 Pioneer, 4.0L, 4x4, Long bed.

  9. I might branch it off into instagram and twitter too. Just getting going, it's slow but it's going. I really think it will take off once word spreads and hopefully I'll have a more centralized group geographically.
  10. I guess this is the right area to post. Hope it's OK to do so. I've started a facebook group of Comanche lovers, I'm based out of Corpus Christi Texas. If you're interested, check out 3rd Coast Comanche Club on facebook. Looking forward to networking with Comanche guys and gals in my area.
  11. So as stated in my previous post, I'm about to replace my down pipe, muffler, cat, and tail pipe due to rust and holes etc. 1989 Pioneer 4.0 5 speed manual. Thinking now that I'm replacing everything else, I should replace my manifold while i'm at it. Looking online for pricing and it's a bit expensive compared to everything else. I found stainless steel headers for way cheaper but they say they are for a 91-95 (or something) Wrangler and Cherokee. Cheaper and better looking. Will other 4.0L exhaust manifolds fit on our MJs 4.0, without heavy modifications?
  12. Always nice to see other Comanches, even better when I know they are "in the club." Wish I was off work, I'd meet up. Love fishing and MJs.
  13. I plan on Walker exhaust pipe. Got to add the cat, probably just go with whatever. Then I guess I'll check sound clips online for the muffler. I know it won't be the same. I heard good things about flow master 40 series I think it was.
  14. I'm sure there are probably several other threads about this already. I did searches but didn't find quite what I was looking for. I have holes in the down pipe, I don't have a cat but don't see any evidence that I ever did. All the pipe and hangers and everything seem to be where they should be. So I'm looking at replacing everything from the exhaust header down. I have never done this and have questions. Everything appears to be bolted on, is this correct? I would like to add the cat back on. I assume I had one from the factory, but it sure doesn't look like it. Then my other question is, what mufflers will give me the best sound? I don't want something annoying, but I'd like a good growl if it's possible from a 4.0L. I've found the pipe online for like 30 bucks each. So what else do I need? Gaskets? Hangers? Clamps? Any input would be great. Thanks all. 1989 Pioneer. 4.0L Long Bed.

  16. I just bought these on eBay. Plan to install them tomorrow. Says in the description 100% brand new... but the other thing says reman. Don't know but they all look good. I'll find out tomorrow I guess. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182401232608 I just clicked my link. Currently the relisted item is marked at $968.00. Pretty sure that's a mistake. I just paid $68.00 for them last week.
  17. Bought the new 746 ones from eBay. They actually say new, not reman. Guess I'll find out. Now I'm wondering, if I'm starting work on the ol girl again... should I start a new build thread? Or continue on my existing one that I've had forever. A Comanche's work is never done. :)
  18. Thank you guys. I think I'll go with the Volvo 746 ones, that seems to be what a bunch of other forums recommend as well. The smoke I'm talking about is thin white smoke almost like steam. It kind of seeps out from the engine side, then dissipates pretty much immediately. I'm thinking it's just a shot seal. The O rings and injectors are probably factory and the trucks only been ran maybe twice in a little over 2 years. Either way, I'm going to change them all before I drive it home.
  19. What about these? I read that these are supposed to be the best. I just don't know what all the lbs and all that is and what to put the right ones in. Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/182401232608
  20. Hey all, haven't been on in awhile. Parked my baby at my brothers house and left it for 2 years. Long story short It was my daily driver until I got a work vehicle. New job and now I want my baby back. So I went to start it up and it fires right up and runs fine, however, I noticed smoke coming from one of the injectors where the injector meets the engine. I left it there because I don't really like the whole flame thing on my cars... So now that the back story is out of the way... I'm sure that its just a O ring or something easy, but I figure if I go through all the trouble to take out the fuel rail and the injector, I may as well upgrade them all with new ones. So I've been going through threads and see everyone pretty much says go with 4 hole injectors. Can someone tell me the best place to get the best deal? I buy a lot of parts on Ebay which may not be the most popular place to shop, but I like it. I found theses but don't know anything about them. Any brands to stay away from, etc. Any input would be great. 1989 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 4x4 Long bed.
  21. I replaced my shocks approx 6 months ago and have had no problems. Now out of the blue I am getting a loud clunking noise going over even the smallest bumps and I am at a loss. I think the noise is coming from the front. Its an 89 Pioneer long bed 4x4 etc. I have Monroe SensaTrac shocks all around. Any ideas on how to stop the noise. I have ehard about some lithium greese or something you can spray on them, but I don't know! Thanks!
  22. Ok, That's what I was thinking. Just wasnt sure if it had a positive and a negitive side. Good info. I can always count on the Comanche Club. Thanks!
  23. That's weird.... I had a 4 speed MJ. lol Maybe they count reverse?
  24. So I was messing around under the hood and noticed that the little ballast / coil resistor was all cracked and broken. So I figured I would go ahead and replace it. So I went ahead and replaced the thing. made sure I got one with same Ohm's etc. Actually Original as you can see is 1.1... new one is 1.2, but with variables and such it shouldnt make any difference.... I think. So as the title states, this thing is getting very very hot. like hot enough you can't touch it for more then a second. Theres a pic of the new one. I have been told that heat is normal at idle but once at speed electrons get to move and it is cooler etc. At least that's what I read on a dodge forum. Wasn't sure if it would be true for an MJ. Was also wondering if it makes a difference which wire is on which side. They both look the same to me. In case it helps. I bought a BWD (Borge Warner) RU12 resister.
