cooling system swap

hey whats up guys. in the next couple of weeks I'm going to swap my cooling system from closed to an open system. has anyone here ever done this upgrade? if so any tips on this upgrade will be appreciated. i have a 87 comanche 4.0, 2wd automatic.will have pics soon.

It has been done. I have never done it but from what I have read on here make sure you buy a NEW 3 row radiator

i did it and it was very simple and easy..i swapped the following and did it this way:

 

-new 94 XJ radiator w/cap

-new hoses top and bottom (not necessary)

-new 94 XJ heater valve

-all new heater hoses

-i used my original pressure bottle as an overflow tank...just drilled the cap big enough for the hose and it works great...any questions just ask me...did mine 2yrs ago and my truck doesnt run above 210 ever :D

There are essentially two ways to do it. A complete conversion (the one that I highly recommend), and a 'budget' conversion which retains most of your original equipment.

I have done both of these on various XJ's and my MJ. IMO the complete conversion is the only way to go. However, if your on a budget and need something 'temporary' then Joe pretty much covers what ya need.
