98 XJ 4.0 with the infamous no-start

I was saying crankshaft but the relay clicking is the auto shut down. If and when it does it again do as I said. Even though you put a new Crankshaft sensor in it can be bad or a loose connection.

OK. I did try the spit method initially to no avail and I didn't hear any relays clicking while doing anything with the crank sensor but I will keep it in mind if it happens again. Thanks!

Normally an open or short in the ASD relay circuitry will throw a code (P1388). But like all codes, if the problem is intermittent maybe ood it won't. If I were you I'd invest in a decent code reader and check your vehicle periodically for OBD2 Pxxxx codes.
