Dzimm
I'm doing a 97+ swap on my 90 Eliminator. When I bought the truck the interior B-pillar trim was missing the vents at the bottom. I have been searching everywhere and can only find the whole B-pillar trim for sale anywhere or even really find them because the search terms conflict with other things. My question is does anyone know where I can find just the vents or options that would work as a replacement. I wouldn't mind making this a small "cubbie hole" either so any ideas are welcomed! Minuit
If you're talking about the speaker grille, it's plastic welded to the main piece. You'll probably never find just the grille, and if you did it still probably wouldn't fit right. not to mention that removing it just about completely destroys the value of the part, since a lot of times they get cut out for bigger speakers and for that reason people want complete ones. Maybe try a speaker grille for a front door instead? I don't have measurements on hand but it might be close enough.
Dzimm
OK yeah I was afraid they were one piece and I didn't even realize they were for speakers (truck was gutted when I got it). Has anyone seen these turned into compartments instead? Obviously space is limited in the MJ and I'm more concerned about having room for tools than I am about speakers. Also any ideas where I could find a square grille that size? I haven't ever seen any square speaker grilles anywhere close to that size before. ParadiseMJ
The B-Pillar vents are just passive vents. Even if the inside opening was truly "vented" on the inside you likely would not need a vent grill. There's enough venting done just within the B-Pillar trim. If you wanted to open that area up you'd probably not find much workable storage space as the seat belt and spool as well as the speaker take up most of it and you can't really jam anything against the belt, spools or speaker and still have everything work right. If you're looking to gain storage space you could get creative with the back panel. They do make (albeit rare) a shelf system that is unique to MJ's, or you could do some sort of peg board, in wood or metal, to store tools and other stuff. I have a mesh net attached to either side that hold quite a bit of miscellany AND a backpack type set up that hangs on the back of the passenger seat. Dzimm
Yeah I'm not too concerned about the venting and I'd like to keep my back panel as I have a very clean gray panel for it. I won't be running any speakers in that area in the rear and it looks as though there is quite a bit of room in there, I'm trying to come up with some way to create a chamber that can hold stuff and not get lost down in the body. Obviously the best course of action is to weld or tack sheet metal in there but I don't have a welder and my house's electrical probably wouldn't take one.
