Egm89
Hello guys! Well something had to happen my truck couldnt last going well forever righr? Haha My truck left me stranded on a freeway exit bcs the clutch didnt want to engage, was driving normal before that, exceptionally good as a matter fact, to the point it got scary haha! Well some of the stuff that I noticed are as following: Well no pressure on the clutch pedal and it seems like leaaking from the transmission area, also no cltuch fluid on the reservoir of the master and pitching sound when I step on the pedal. In guessing slave is a goner, and since I have an ba10 probably going to op for the ax15 route, is it hard to do the swap? Or should I just replace the slave? If the slave would be the problem. Thanks in advance comanche peeps!
Eagle
Please clarify -- The clutch would engage ... or the clutch wouldn't DISengage?
Egm89
Would not engage Eagle
Eagle
If the clutch won't engage, the engine runs, you can shift into any gear, and the truck won't move. That doesn't sound like what you were describing. Can you give more details of the failure? You were on a freeway. Were you driving, or stopped somewhere? Did the clutch just suddenly stop transferring power to the transmission?

Did the clutch just suddenly stop transferring power to the transmission? Ok here goes more details, by the way the truck was driving like wonders just before this.Driving down the freeway I was on 5th gear cruising when my exit was coming next I start slowing down and downshift a little, thats when I heard a high pitched sounds when I pressed the clutch to change gear, as I slow down more it way harder to shift into gear and the clutch was feeling super soft, like with no resistence. After that I managed to shift into first and got into a parking lot but I couldnt change gears the truck was still on first, clutch was still super soft and unresponsive. Thats when I turn on the truck and start checking for issues. What I checked first was the clutch fluid and it was empty, luckily I had some brake fluid on my truck so I top it off. But did not fixed my issue. But I noticed that it was leaking from under the transmission area, and if I remember correctly my truck has an internal slave right? Thats why I think would be a good ideas just to change the transmission, I looked online and the slave its around 100 bucks. Now everytime I press the clutch all the way down I hear like a grinding sound from underneath the truck. The truck starts normally in neutral, and I still can change gear when its off. But once that its running I can't, to my knowledge it would be a bad master or slave cylinder, but my knowledge its very limited compared to you guys haha. Thanks eagle! Eagle
Okay, you have your terminology reversed. Your clutch is engaged, and won't disengage. That's why you can't shift with the engine running. The problem is probably the slave cylinder. It could also be the hose that connects the master to the slave, or it could be the master. If it's the hose, you're lucky because you don't have to drop the tranny to replace the hose.
87Warrior
The 'high pitched sound' you heard when pressing the clutch was the sound of a failed release bearing, which is part of the internal slave cylinder. If the truck is your daily driver I'd suggest simply installing a new slave cylinder and clutch. However if you can afford some down time, sourcing parts for an AX15 swap would be a great choice. Well as soon as I get off from work definitely would check that hose, even though I don't thibk Ill be that lucky! Is it to hard to replace that slave cylinder?
