87Chief
I know this gets asked a lot, but if I had the opportunity to buy a 4.0 Comanche (88 4.0, 5 speed, chrysler 8.25, 4wd) or a Cherokee (any cherokee with 4.0 4wd) what would yall choose? I'm thinking for an entire swap with wiring and everything, buy the Comanche, but I don't know if it will run or not since it's in the JY and some interior parts are missing.. Just want to get yall's opinion on it. Buy the Comanche or Cherokee?
Wiggilez
If you buy the mj there is less electrical work to do. Also unless it was swapped in the mj never got the 8.25 as a option just the d35 or d44
13 Legion
Rescue the MJ if it's in good shape! I'd rather have a solid body to start the build. It sounds like it's already getting picked apart though so it may not be running. I know a lot of JYs puncture the fuel tank as well. Maybe post some pics. How much are they asking? It sounds like your planning a swap regardless. So are you asking buy a Comanche than find a donor XJ for swap or buy XJ than look for an MJ to swap everything into? 87Chief
I already have a 2.5L MJ looking for a truck for the swap. I've seen the truck, but before I got to it looks like someone took the driver side window (door panel was off) and the steering wheel. I took most of the interior and want to go back for the dash because I'm doing gray interior, but figured if it was cheap enough to get the whole truck I'd strip it and send it back for scrap when everything is out. I didn't get a good look at the rear axle so it might be the D35. I was planning on rebuilding the motor anyway just to freshen it up unless it runs really good (probably not). I will go back today and take a few pics (the rear lights are trashed (busted)) tailgate is gone, bed didn't look too good and a bunch mud underneath (dried mud)
ParadiseMJ
Most of the interior parts swap over from XJ to MJ. I got everything I needed except a rear carpet board, which was easy to make myself and the e-brake pedal. I already had all the b-pillar trim and bought new cabin lights off e-bay. Everything else is XJ. My engine (a 4.0 L) and drive train was intact, but even the majority of that is XJ crossover stuff too. XJ's are readily available over a big range of years. Alot of Renix era trim can be upgraded using later model stuff.
