Anybody ever use or see an 8.25 rear in a Comanche? I plan on installing one soon, SOA, in my '88. I know there's better axles out there, but hey, I have it on hand, it's the righ gear ratio, and it's better than the D35 that's in there now. Just wondering how common of a swap it is, if at all.

never seen it, but if its the right width, i don't see why it wouldn't work. just weld new perches in the correct location.

i'm assuming it came from an xj?

The 8.25 should swap right in. Earlier models are a mild upgrade from the 35, later models are even better. I'm not so sure welding the spiders would be a wise idea, but that depends on what you plan on doing with her.

Jeep on!

if from an xj, you just need to re-locate the perches, the rest is bolt in, and will fit right, my d44 from the 87 xj fits very nicely. i like the locker idea! :-D

(good lord, just realized i can't spell :( )

My YJ's had front and rear Lincoln Lockers for a few years now, even driven on the road weekly. no problems.

Thanks for the replies, I'll let you know how it works out.

I just finished a 8.25 29 spline in my 91 eliminator. It was easy, I just moved the spring perches and redid my shock mounts. I fabbed my own shock mounts on my 35 after my SOA. It was no big deal at all. Plus it was half the price of a 44.

Well this is good news, I planned on putting the 8.25 from her 98 XJ into mine. We have a D44 for hers, and she needs it with the way she abuses the skinny pedal offroad. Once we have that in, all I need to do is regear the 8.25 and install it.
