Iowamike
Put a new ignition cylender in the 88 manche. After install and prior the key wouldnt come out. After i took the dash off there was a gray knob that poped out of the buttom of the column. So i pushed it in an the key comes out. Turn the key it pops back out, an the key won't come out. Is there some thing I'm missing? The column was out of a cherokee with tilt an works fine other then this knob / key problem.
Iowamike
After more reading. It looks like theres a linkage from the old jeep, it came from I'm guessing its an automatic wigit is there a conversion i got a 5 speed peugeot. Or do I just have to leave the dash apart to push it back in?
64 Cheyenne
I pulled it down wired it to release all the time. FWIW my column was swapped in from a newer Jeep but it had the release thing.

Rockfrog
it's the shifter interlock jobby. I disabled it while I was swapping lock cylinders before putting the 92 auto tilt column into my 88 5 spd MJ. can't remember what I did exactly, was a while ago. but pull the column, find the rod, figure out where it needs to be to let the key go and make that the permanent state. I think you just need to lock it in place. been a while like I said. Did you mess with the ignition switch rod at all? sounds like it's now out of adjustment or not connected correctly. Iowamike
Nope just took the lock out. Its had this problem befor, I took the busted cylender out. I didnt change the column. So I'm guessing its on down the line of detective work. Learning as I go.
64 Cheyenne
I'd have to agree with the adjustment of the start switch rod, maybe the new key switch changed the "throw" of the rod.
Rockfrog
probably just slipped out of alignment while working on the other rod.
