Door Jamb Switch ?

Recommended Posts

I just installed my Eurmatec B pillar lights but they only come on when i flip em up or down. I then realized my door jamb switches were rusted in the closed position. So I grabbed a pair of pliers and pulled the passenger switch to open. With it open only the drivers side B pillar light comes on but the passenger does not. With the switch pulled out, i manually turn the passenger pillar light on it comes on but it's really dim. What would cause this? Would just a faulty switch cause this? Or does it sound like there are other problems I need to know about before pulling the old door switches out.

Well see they come on at the same time when I manually flip them on. But with the door switch out only one comes on. I plan to just replace the door switches and hopefully that fixes it but to me it seems there maybe another issue in there.

I have a issues with my Lights after I installed the Eurmatec B pillar lights.  After installing they do not go out. I took out the Door Jambs and cleaned them up, and it will work sometimes.  In fact, there are times when I slightly close the door and the light goes off, but then when I fully close the door it comes back on.  I have to believe it is the switch, but they seem simple. Hopefully, new ones will solve my issue.

So I am still trying to get my dome lights to turn off when door closes.  When I unplug both Door Jamb switches, shouldn't the lights go out? Well mine did not.  I purchased a new Switch for drivers side, they only had one.  Installed it, worked right away. I had unplugged pass side light so I plugged it back in and then back to lights won't go out. Sigh. I felt confident it was the driver side switch as sometimes it would work, and at times closing door partially worked. But not consistent. Anything else I should be looking at?

stupid question, these lights work on a "rocker" style powered position,  what direction is the lens facing?  ex: up, straight, down.

these (or atleast mine)  are door switch via the center position or constant on in the up or down position.

I would test each wire with a multi meter and see if somethings backwards. then try looking at the back of the lights, it should be pretty apparent which wires go where. I think it went ground on the far side, door switch in the center and constant on the end?

Mine did this the other night. I played around with the rocking of the lights and it finally cut off with the doors closed. I think it's a bad connection at the lights for me. It sure was eerie pulling into my driveway seeing the manches lights on for no reason.

Mine does something similar time to time, my lights themselves are good. I have the Euramtec lights with LED bulbs.

My issue is always the drivers door switch. When the don't come on it's because the switch had corroded and didn't connect ground. When the stay on it's usually rain getting in there and completing ground (usually a very dim light). Generally I just have to clean them time to time and it's all good.

The door switches are a simple pass through ground, wire in is the same as out, all ground. Very simple.

If the wiring/connections at the lights are good, I would suspect a chafe in the wire or broken/corroded wire, as the wire itself moves with these style switches when the plunger moves.

I soldered my wires to the housings and added new connectors in the circuit about 6" from the light.

I have also considered switching to the later style door switches as the are less prone to these types of intermittent contact issues with a more shrouded design and a property protected connector style.

Hopefully you figure it out, mine drove me nuts until I knew what the issue was, kept popping on while I was driving home from work. Driving 250kms at night with the interior lights on got old real fast.

Well I am fairly convinced it is a wiring issue somewhere, obviously.  For now, I have discounted the wire to the lights that connects to the Door Jamb and just manually turn the lights on. Felt I had wasted enough time on them already.
