New MJ, have a few questions.

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum, but I just bought a 1990 Pioneer with 160k on it. The first time I went to fill it up with gas when the pump clicked off the gas tank spit out some gas from the passenger side of the tank. Is there seal there that needs to be replaced or is this to be expected? (my tj will spit gas out where the gas cap is). Also, what are some general things I need to keep an eye on or that are known to break?

Looking forward to prettying this truck up!!

Have you been under there to eyeball where it's coming from? Unless you have a hole in the tank, the fuel will be coming from the submersible pump access hole (1) or the rear vent grommet/hose (2). Most likely #2 - rotten hose and/or grommet

I pulled it up on tapatalk and can see the picture now. Ill have to wait to fill up again and see exactly where it is coming from because I thought it was from (1) but I didnt know (2) was there so it very well may be that. There was gas down that whole side of the tank.

All of his tips are good for our trucks. Any questions, just make a thread here and someone will be able to give you some advice and ideas.

Read the DIY section as well. Lots of solid information there.

And enjoy your new truck, they are lots of fun.

I had a gas leak on mine and it was the main gasket going in on the passenger side that had rotted. I went ahead and replaced the pump and some rubber gas lines while I was at it. I saved the old pump also just in case
