What are my spark plugs saying? Compression Test Results

Recommended Posts

A few weekends ago I decided to check my compression. The jeep has horrible blow by. The other night I was messing around with the PCV I removed the hose that goes to the manifold and the jeep revved. When the PCV hose was removed from the manifold smoke started pouring out of the fresh air intake part of the valve cover. Plugged the hose back into the manifold and everything went back to normal. That being said, I was concerned that I had a possible head gasket problem I decided to do a compression test.

Results of Compression Test:

1 = 125

2 = 140

3 = 143

4 = 145

5 = 130

6 = 150

Here is how the spark plugs looked when I pulled them out for the test. What do you guys think?

Lots of blow-by and low compression on cyl 1 & 5?  I'd be looking at the rings and/or the pistons.  Maura had horrible blow-by (leaking oil out of the airbox) and the rings/pistons were shot.  Has it been sitting for an extended period of time?  If so the rings may be stuck.  If you can borrow a borescope you can look at the cylinder walls and see if they're scored up.
