Project "Because Racejeep" the slow build of a fast jeep.

Recommended Posts

Since I already have a LS swapped YJ on 37s, it was time for something different. I wanted something low and fast, but couldn't decide what I wanted. So a buddy of mine comes up to me and says "hey, wanna long arm one of my MJ's?" long story short I ended up with this gem as payment, a pratically rust free 2wd 4.0 5 speed 1988 Comanche with 128k

All it needed when I got it was a good bath and the inside cleaned, and a coolant reservoir. I drove the jeep around for a while and fell in love. Then being the person I am, can't leave well enough alone, started looking for race jeep parts. First order of business was wheels. A friend of mine had a set of 18x10 xxrs with 245/35/r18s.

I sat them up next to the jeep, and thought meh, maybe once it's lowered it will look better. Before I could buy them from him he sold the 240 they were on, bummer...so I got a hold of the guy who bought the car, a few FB messages and a 4 hour drive to Maryland they were mine

Bought some lug nuts...threw them on and thought oh gawd what have I done...

This isn't gonna work so that weekend I was in the garage thinking how am I gonna lower this thing, so I got a set of rear zj coils and started there, wasn't happy so I cut 2 coils off, pulled 2 leafs out of the back (don't worry, this isn't permanant) and added 2 inch blocks

Starting to look better, but was about at the limit with the front track bar clearance. But I was happy at this point

What is it with this ricer trend to stretch narrow tires on wide rims???? That looks hideous. The wheels aren't bad, but the curb grabbing wheel rim look is........

Hella flush bro...no just kiddin...I got a good deal on the wheels and they had brand new tires...once these are done in geting a wider tire

I LIKES IT!!

I wanted to do this to our 92 way back when we had the youngins, but wifey said no..

I recently traded a 87 crx si for a 96 Cherokee that's 2wd, 2dr, 4cyl, 5spd, 8.25 (4-10's) and am getting all the suspension figured out.

The idea is to drop in a carb'd 5.2 that I freshened up and put on some EQ heads, with a reground cam. That will be bolted to a

NV3550(?) from a '97 Ram 1500.

I've been messing with all sorts of cars/machinery for the past 30+yrs and had an extra set of Conquest rims 7-8's but had to mill the center out some.

If my Comanche was your color, I'd have done it to that one. BUT, I needed room for 3 adults now. That's why the Cherokee...

Your Comanche looks great so far. I'd say just need a little taller tire. Not much, but taller.

Read it over again, and I'm really warming up to your rim choice, even better that they're staggered.

I spent some $$ on enlarging the center hub hole and not "totally" excited about them.

They're staggered also but got a fantastic deal on some Blizzak snow tires from Tire rack

235-60-16.

I was looking at the zj springs also from a V8 Grand but didn't have the correct sockets when I was at the yard.

But they look to be almost double the thickness.. Once I get the 5.2 in there, I'll mess around cutting a set. That way I don't'

feel so bad if I cut too much.

Keep GOING man.

I cut mine at least three times before I got it where I wanted, I'm slowly gathering parts to LSx swap it in the spring. As for the wheel it took me a little to get used to them, may go with a wider tire eventually. But for what I paid for them I couldn't pass it up
