renix computer overheating

Hi  I'm new to the forum and if this has been covered before I apologize

 

Just picked up a 1988 4.0 with automatic (I think a AW4)  that runs for a while and then just shuts down.  I tore the dash apart figuring an electrical issue but when I touched the computer above the gas pedal area I couldn't hold onto it, way to hot.  I assume this is not normal or safe.  How hot should remix control be and do I need a new one?  starts fine when its cold

I've never known it to get hot, but I don't go fishing around under the dash while I'm driving either.
