shawn
i doubt this post is going to help anyone but here's my newest electrical weirdness. a branch grabbed the connector that comes from the o2 sensor and pulled it apart. i found this out while wheeling alone ( again). the part that goes from the sensor seems fine. the other end of the connector is a 4 pin affair and since the colours don't match there isnt a way to tell how they connect up again ( other that that the four wires are still going through a little rubber boot/guide that goes into the connector, so they do have to go in a certain order). i thought i tried them in every combination possible but still it just cranks. ( of course this kind of thing always happens in a place that no tow truck can get to). i dint think to check the codes before i left but that's the first thing i will do tomorrow. while i was under there i noticed a place that looked like it should have a sensor but there was no wire going to it -- it looked like a freeze-plug near the front of the block. i just looked at the wifes 95 xj and there is a wire going to hers so i don't know if that could have any bearing on the situ or not , - i didnt see a wire hanging or anything that looked like it belonged there on my mj (91). it's a puzzler that i'd just as soon let someone else ( who deals well with electrical) deal with but since i ended up leaving it in the semi-rural bush for the night loaded with personal goodies, i just thought i'd throw this up here and see if there are any thoughts. ty i a. HOrnbrod
A bad or missing O2 sensor won't cause a no-start. You can disconnect it and it will start, but will stay in open loop mode running on a stored map from the ECU. If you are referring to your 91 HO, I know of no sensors with wires on the left side of the block where the freeze plugs are. Check to make sure the CPS connector near the intake manifold is still plugged in. Also pull the cover off the PDC and check for any blown fuses, especially the 30A Auto Shutdown and 40A IGN SW fuse. Do check for fault codes and let us know.
shawn
one of these days I'm going to have to send you a check for all the money that you've saved me :) 30 amp ignition fuse! maybe it blew when the sensor connector was yanked out. either way it's out of the bush and back on the road so a big thank you. no check-engine light so maybe i got lucky with the sequence putting it back together - it goes right into the main wiring harness so replacing that end isn't an option - just gonna wire it and tape it as best as possible and tuck it up up up. :)
fiatslug87
The HOs do not have the coolant sensor on that side???
HOrnbrod
No, just the temp gauge sensor on the rear left head and the ECU temp sensor on the thermostat housing.
