Parking brake help

Recommended Posts

I just recently acquired a 1986 Comanche 4x4 LWB with the 2.8l and AX5 trans. I am in the process of going through all the mechanical stuff to get her back on the road.

I am redoing the rear brakes now and have a question about the parking brake cables. The cables enter the backing plates from the rear. I have looked at countless diagrams, pics and scoured this site but have not been able to find anything that shows this type of set up. I did find one post on here where a guy said he had two 86's and they both had the cables entering from the rear. But no other info than that.

Even the service manuals I have looked at always have them entering from the front. It is a amc/dana 35.

Anybody have any info on this? It seems to be only the 86's that were set up like this.

Thanks in advance.
