As some of you know I'm swapping a full HO setup out of a 94 into my mj. I have column shift and plan to keep it.  the problem I'm having is that column and the HO harness obviously aren't the same. just looking for info from someone that has done this or maybe a FSM for an HO XJ so I can do the pinouts and rewire it all. Thanks!

Can't see any sig's as I'm on my phone but ... When I swapped my stock 88 column for one from a 92 ... I thought the plugs didn't match the later ignition switch, but they actually did. The orientation changed with the HO's so compared to a Renix they are upside down, backwards and swapped. Once I figured that out it was easy.

Ill have to take a second look. I know the turn signal and the High beam switch are different for sure

You should look for a wiring manual not the chipo Chilton but the one that shows all the circuits. Power, ground engine fuel injectors etc. A book that shows the wire size and color I pickup on craigslist just such book. It is called Electrical Troubleshooting 1988 Cherokee/Wagoneer look for your year.

 

That one of craigslist was not cheap I also found my year 1988 on ebay look for the orange color ones. Good hunting

 

A word these books are great I studied it, it helped, they are hard to decipher take your time. I spent time with the book the harness on the garage floor, for 2 weeks each evening it worked great no problems in my harness

I have that book for the MJ and its fricken awesome. You're right, wire color, size, connector name is all listed. it even has a connector end view in mine so you know youre in the right place. ill check out ebay. thank you

I think the column itself is physically the same, so you may be able to move the newer switches over to the old column. I believe the only difference is the key lock itself.

The 92 column I used plugged right in with the exception of the above noted difference.

It was actually out of an automatic, I modified to work in the manual (disabled the shift interlock).

Try it, look at the plug and the stock connectors on the stock column ... put the blue where the black plug was, and try them upside down. I'm out at work or I'd snap a picture of what I mean. I was going to swap the switches but they actually differ, the plug connectors were however still the same. Just had a slightly altered orientation on the switch.

The ignition switch plug was all that caused me problems. Until I figured it out.

That made me remember something about there being a plug change in 94, check a 93 model to confirm, I have two 92 columns that match my 88.

Looks like you are going back to rewiring the harness to make that work. Maybe try the earlier in switch on the later column. That might be the key to making it work, either that or use an earlier harness.

Can't use the earlier harness cuz I swapped clusters :( looks like I need to get my soldering iron out!
