JeepsOLot
Swapping the D44 from my '86 Long Bed (not MT) into my '88 Eliminator, would there be any advantage to swap the springs as well? Not even sure the Long Bed springs would even work in a Short Bed, but, thought I would ask. Thanks!! Jerry
Eagle
The springs are the same length for both models, but there would be no advantage to swapping springs just because you're changing the axle. If your springs are sagged, then there might be an advantage to putting in new springs -- but because of the sag, not because of the axle swap. A note of caution: Several people have posted that replacing their old springs with new AFTERMARKET metric ton springs resulted in a ride height two or three inches HIGHER than factory ride height. To some that's not a bad thing, maybe even a good thing. To me, that would be entirely unacceptable.
JeepsOLot
Well, one reason is the mileage, the '86 has 78k miles, and the '88 has 181k. I was looking at dealing for that reason. Jerry
Pete M
mileage matters less than use. pick whichever is in better shape. and I would hang on to the old ones. they are getting harder and harder to find in yards.
JeepsOLot
Well, I'm going to have to put something back under the '86, as my friend and I will be putting his TJ 4.0, electronics, and auto tranny in it to sell later. I'm trying to get the things that are in better shape and upgraded from it and put on the Eliminator before we sell it. Jerry
