Dillithium Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Â Am I correct in the fact that i need to remove the throttle body to adjust the TPS on the 2.5 TBI? With those fuel lines there, and the coolant(?) line to the right of it, I have no room to backprobe the connectors, let alone a T-20 socket. Â Can I safely disconnect those fuel lines, or would I have gas spray everywhere? Is there a gasket from the TB to the Intake manifold?
Jeep Driver Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 That's the first I've seen of a '86 close up.....looks like a cluster-F. Â I use a Torx screw driver....may be easier than a socket and ratchet. Â Once removed you could replace the bolts with socket head bolts and use an allen wrench. Â Â Â You can make up a couple of probe pins, stick those into the plug and then touch the meter probes to the pins rather than probing directly. Â Â The Fuel lines should flex enough that you could lift the TBI up enough to probe and adjust but you'll likely lose your gasket. I would do whatever I could to not remove the TBI.
Dillithium Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 I tried using household wire to backprobe it, the connections are weatherproof so I couldn't get it in right. Even if I could, I'd have no way good way to loosen the TPS. I'm going to find a rebuild kit for the TBI, if I'm going to go through the effort of taking it off I might as well clean it up. Â Thanks Jeep Driver.
