no brake or tail lights

So I'm a new member but been lurking for a wile now and need a little advice if there is a thread that covers this point me to it. if not i guess this will be it.

 

my 92 4.0HO AW4 NP231 has no brake or tail lights, turn and reverse are good. I have isolated the rear harness at the plug under the seat and with a jumper from the bat i can make all the lights work. Reconnected it and did the same at the brake light switch plug and nothing. Fuses are good. It looks like the truck had this prob before due to the jerryrigged wiring job done by the PO. So what is between those plugs that could cause me to loose power to the lights?

It may be a bad bulb or socket. I chased lighting gremlins for almost a month until I went and tested each socket individually.
