Kickinmule
My 88 Chief has an "S" as the 8th digit and when I'm searching for parts looks like the parts I'm after suggest it should be an "M". Like the cap and rotor. Should I find parts specific to that digit code? Isn't "S" for a later year model 91-92? I'm a bit confused...
jimoshel
For an '88, the the 8th letter designates the trim.
gogmorgo
Year is always the 10th digit. I'll bet your 10th digit is a J. But yes, an S in the 10th position would indicate a '94 model year.

gogmorgo
Try searching for a Cherokee with the same specs as your MJ? Lots of systems don't have much about the Comanche in them, and could have errors due to so few hits that the bugs haven't been picked up. Lots of XJ knowledge and people and parts out there, and everything under the hood should be the same. I don't know much about the Renix system, but there were two styles of distributor for the HO's, one early, one late, with the switch happening around 94 or 95 I think. The cap is the same between the two, but the rotor isn't, and the two aren't interchangeable. I don't know, but I'm fairly confident neither will fit a Renix. The cap might, but you should probably check that somehow.
