dankicksass
My Jeep needs to pass inspection for the last time ever in NJ this month. Good thing. It has a colossal exhaust leak and runs super rich because of it, so I figured it's time to address that. New header and downpipe are on the way but the way I figure, the manifold probably cracks on the 4.0 because they're 1) not very good or 2) stressed too much by the rest of the exhaust moving. There's no flexpipe to eat up the motion of the engine vs the rest of the exhaust. I figured I'd ask if anyone has put a flexpipe in the downpipe with good results, I searched here and NAXJA, didn't find much.

HOrnbrod
What about a flex stainless steel manifold that won't crack? http://www.carpartstoyourdoor.com/jeepman9199.htm
dankicksass
What about a flex stainless steel manifold that won't crack? http://www.carpartstoyourdoor.com/jeepman9199.htm I didn't like the look of that as much as the 3-2-1 manifold I ordered. If they put the flex after the collector, I'd believe in it more. I don't see how a flex for the #1 and 6 cylinder ports is going to help anything, 2-5 are still hard mounted. HOrnbrod
If that header you bought is stainless you should be golden. I put on a Mike Leach header like the below back in 06; no cracks at all. The key I think in preventing cracking is quality stainless steel for the header along with quality engine mounts.
dankicksass
I ordered new engine and trans mounts with the stainless header. The three mounts cost me less than $30, no reason to leave 24 year old stuff on it. I might put a 12in flex pipe in the downpipe and kill the downpipe "dent" while I'm in there. If only I actually knew how to weld...
Incommando
I have always welded the crack-prone areas of the head pipe when I had them off whether they showed cracks or not. It seems to work. I know that info doesn't address the flex pipe topic but maybe someone reading this will find this helpful.
