jpnjim
Nice job on the exhaust! Those flat 4 bolt cat flanges like the original had aren't too difficult to fabricate with a piece of steel plate, a gasket, and a hole saw. Your system came out so nice, I wouldn't take it apart to add it now, but to anyone copying your idea of using the weld up kit like this, it really helps to have a flange like the factory set up if it needs to come apart later. BTW, the engine looks as great as the exhaust, nice job! edit; you would probably never need it, but the other benefit of having the flange is if you needed to replace that head pipe quickly (like in the middle of a 4wd trip somewhere), an off the shelf pipe would still work till you got home.... sorry for the side track :) Thanks it took a long time to mess around with to get as I wanted it, if you keep looking down the page I originally used Square flanges on my old exhaust which are cheap and easy to get at any auto parts store but with the Hot Rod kit it comes with ball flanges which is what I used as the first semi completed pic was a test fit... ON stock exhaust I always cut and weld in a square flange to be serviceable as it should have been that way from the factory... Ahh, thanks for pointing that out, sorry it looked like a regular slip fit to me in the other pics. A++ job all around
HOrnbrod
Yes as I am running everything 97+ Sorry I thought that was clear in the pics where you see my Valve cover... It was. I just missed it because it was painted so pretty. .
Jeepman
Ha Ha no worries....The one pic does have it slipped on but that was just to figure out where I wanted to cut for the flange... to al the Great Projects out there and a Merry Christmas As well... Now All I need to do is get a new transmission and install it so I can enjoy all this HP under my Hood... and the Damn Truck is WAY too loud so I may have to swap Mufflers to something a little quieter but till I sort out the trans I am not changing just yet... HOrnbrod
I had one of those Magnaflow mufflers on at first but with the headers and 2.5 duals from the muffler on back the droning drove me crazy. I could only stand it about a week, went back to the shop, ripped it off and installed a Walker Performance baffled muffler instead. It's still louder than stock but no more droning. I can live with that.
Jeepman
Its not an interior drone issue just way to loud... I had the same Muffler on my Old Exhaust but With the tubing now a true 2.5" and the HP increase of the Engine its Damn loud although its not burned in completely yet as it is slowly quieting down but I doubt it will be enough... I will look into the Walker Performance Muffler but I want to keep everything Stainless...
