1986 MJ with 4 cylinder. There is a two wire connector that on my vehicle is located behind the intake manifold and the firewall. The female connector has a purple wire with a white stripe and a white wire with a black stripe. The make end has a wire that is red and the other is white. This connector came lose before and the engine shut off and would but start. It would turn over but not start. As soon as I put the connector together the truck started right up and was happy.

 

Well this time the wire dropped and was pulled out of the firewall or where ever the male connector with red wire and a white wire. I need to find out where that wire plugs into. Or if I can find the two common wires that can be used so I can get my truck started and home. I will try and get a pic posted.

It may be the MAP sensor wiring. A pic would help a lot.

 

EDIT: Engine Speed sensor

 

WHT/BLK goes to pin 28 of the ECM

VIO/WHT goes to pin 11 of the ECM

That sounds like it is the CPS. Crankshaft Position Sensor. There are no other common wires for the CPS. The CPS works by magnetism and sends a signal to the ECU. The CPS is located on the top, front portion of the transmission and sits in a slot. As the flywheel turns, the CPS picks up high and lows spots that the flywheel has in its deisgn.

 

So if the plug fell down along side the firewall it is still hanging there somewhere. Picture would help!

Well I made it home with a tow. But the issue still remains and I hope it is not something to serious. I see there is some confusion so I will try and explain.

 

 

 

That connector with the wires hanging from it is whats left. You can see the black plastic is the female side of the connector. The male side is no longer there but those two wires have been plugged into the female connector. The male side has the red and white wires. The male side was pulled out of from where ever it is wired and left me with a two foot loom with two wires sticking out.
