I Need Some Advice D

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm new to the world of jeep and I could use some advice. I just changed the oil in my 87 2.5l 4x4, manual 4-speed to some asi spec royal purple 10w30, but On Tuesday I'm going to be pulling a small 2000lb trailer for an 8 hour drive. Now, I did too much research online and have myself worried that the oil won't provide the protection I need due to lower Zddp content. Am I worrying myself for no reason? I do have in my possession 4 quarts of royal purple xpr 10w40 that I could swap it out with. But is it really going to make a difference to my engine if I do?

I just replaced my VC last week. There are over 60K miles on this engine, I put 55K on it, using Havoline 40W and Lucas.

It is spotless inside. I also replaced the oil pan gasket two weeks ago, just as clean there also.

I run a little more than 60psi at 2000rpm and 40psi at idle, no problem with wear.

You guys really need to get over yourselves with all the oil science bull$#!& and just run a quality oil and filter. I use Pure1 filters.

Do you have a oil pressure gauge or idiot light? If you're getting 30 PSI you're good. 20PSI for a non working engine. Non working engine=No trailer, No rev over 2,000 RPM.

My wife's grandad had a well drilling outfit, Four working rigs, Over dozen support vehicles from a half ton pick up to a 5 ton flat bed. plus welders, generators, portable pumps, etc, etc plus a shiny new Kaiser every year. He ran nothing but Havoline 10W, all the time year round. No problems. But he faithfully changed oil and filter every 1,000 miles. Actually he didn't change chet. That's what the hired help, me, was for.

I was a roughneck/mechanic on drilling rigs for over 12 years. We ran the crap outta I6 and I4 motors at 3k+ all day long. As long as the motor is in good condition and fluids used are not cheap quality, you should be fine.
