benjy_26 Posted June 18, 2014 Share Posted June 18, 2014 Hello all. I was talking to my brother the other day, and, while he is still very much a car guy, he's been once again bitten by the Jeep bug. We've been looking high and low for a suitable MJ for him (he loves driving mine), but have come up empty handed. He's probably going to get himself a XJ, to be honest. We've been looking around, and all the XJ's we've seen have pretzeled rear springs. This is when I had an idea: Pretty soon, I'll have a set of Comanche leaves available that we can rebuild for the rear of whatever XJ he gets. The twist is: Why not make the XJ SUA? He doesn't want to go bigger than 31's, likes to camp (i.e. needs load carrying capacity), hates axle wrap, and would rather cut than lift to fit tires. How do y'all think this would work? yellaheep Posted June 18, 2014 Share Posted June 18, 2014 Cherokee rear leaf packs are much shorter than the MJ leaf packs. No just bolting them in.... would take fab work and it would lengthen the wheel base (locates the axle farther back)...... and destroy departure angle given that the shackles would essentially be out past the rear bumper...... This is what a set of MJ leaf packs looks like under an XJ....... required custom shackle boxes and mounts out back. Custom wheel well openings to accommodate the longer wheel base. benjy_26 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Share Posted June 19, 2014 Yella, Texas is BIG. From where I am, it's a 12hr drive to Dallas. In my corner of the world, MJ's just weren't very popular, I guess. I like it, but it's a few hundred miles south of me, so I go infrequently. i'm actually in SA this weekend. I'll look around for MJ's. The lady friend isn't going to like a 10 hour drive I'm the mj with no AC. Not to mention I'm not going to enjoy getting 12mpg with the mj either.
