So I know the tire size questions are probably all worn out but I went to look into some tires today because I'm selling my 31's to my dad for his YJ and i was trying to decide what i wanted to get to replace them. The guy at the tire place is a good guy and he's been in the business for years and he swore to me that 32 X 11.5 would fit on the stock rims on my comanche. He said it would be tight in the back but would fit and the front he said would work but would likely rub on the inside but I expected that since my 31's did too. I have the three inch lift, i think about 5 in the front but does anyone know if he's right because I definitely don't want to buy them and it end up being so tight that I can't drive it. I'm sure questions like this have been asked a million times but does anyone have any idea of how that'll work? I read the backspacing thread from like last week but I'm still not sure because with 31 X 10.5's I have about 1.5" off the frame in the rear... Any thoughts, just seems like there is so much difference even between comanches and of course different manufacturers measurements can run a bit differently. . . Thanks, and sorry for the repeat question. -Will

but if I go with more backspacing won't I rub on the fenders in the front? This is what has me all confused...

well, that's what lift and bumpstopping is for.

Think about it like this, you'll have 5 inches more room between the wheel and the fender than you have now.

You need to bumpstop anyway to keep from damaging springs.

go with a shallower wheel, bumpstop it and you'll be set.

I ran 34's on a 3" lift.

32's on a 5" lift should require any cutting. Hell, XJ guys are running 35's on 5" lifts.

Yes, you will. Plus you know you already have the tires rub the lower control arms when you turn, even with 31x10.50s (and, BTW, they'll also rub a little with 30x9.50s), so with 32x11.50s you'll have a half inch MORE tire inboard of the centerline of the rim, therefore it'll rub more and with less of a turn angle.

In the rear, you'll also have half an inch less clearance between the tire and the frame. It'll probably clear going straight on pavement, but I know for a fact that 31x10.50s rub against the frame when the rear axle gets twisted, so 32x11.50s will only rub more and sooner.

Lift is NOT the answer to either of these conditions. What you need is rims with less (not more) backspacing. The rear wheel arches are probably large enough that you won't need much or any cutting there, but the front WILL require cutting.
