2.1 Td Pump Timing?

Recommended Posts

Hello all I just acquired a 1986 2.1 turbo diesel with 81xxx miles no rust no rot but the only thin I can't figure out is the timing... Symptoms- hard start, long crank time and when it does start it has a very erratic idle like a lope between 1500-500 rpm and smokes a lot of blue/white smoke but when up around 3000 rpm nothing runs great?? It had the pump replaced before I got it an I have never owned one of these... So any help would be great

take a look at automan's build thread, he also has a 2.1 Diesel MJ.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

is this the first Diesel vehicle you have ever owned?  if it is,before you go to crank it make sure to turn it to the "on" position and leave it for a few moments while the glow plugs heat up. there should be a light indicating not to crank yet. after the light turns off then crank the engine.

from Automan's build thread

Edit: Automan's diesel MJ thread: http://comancheclub.com/topic/31030-diesel-fuel-only-factory-diesel-comanche/

aside from that i can't really help any more on this subject
