54bobby Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 when I turn the truck off, the key only returns to the position just before the off position. it has done it intermitantly but it's now doing it more and more. at first if I restarted the engine and cycled the floor shifter, then turned it off, it would work but that's working less and less. is the problem in the shifter linkage or the column?
ComancheKid45 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Try bumping the floor shifter up a time or 2 once its in park. I have this issue with Oscar from time to time
54bobby Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 so it's shifter related and not the ignition?
Dando Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Sounds like the shift interlock cable, I would pull up the bezel around the shifter and see if there happens to be slack in the cable.
Dando Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 As far as I remember it isn't adjustable, it might be though. I removed mine when swapping from column shift to floor shift and never installed the new cable, I currently run mine with no interlock cable. I also replaced my column with one from a 5 speed so there was no provision for the cable anyways though.
54bobby Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 so, can I remove the cable w/o any issues? what does said cable do?
dankicksass Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I removed the shift interlock on a GM vehicle I own recently because the cable and floor shift are discontinued and it would get stuck and stay in ACC. Now you can turn that car off and take the key out in any gear. Doesn't really matter to me, I'm not going to let it roll away.
