Ignition Key Won't Return To Off Position

Recommended Posts

when I turn the truck off, the key only returns to the position just before the off position. it has done it intermitantly but it's now doing it more and more. at first if I restarted the engine and cycled the floor shifter, then turned it off, it would work but that's working less and less. is the problem in the shifter linkage or the column?

As far as I remember it isn't adjustable, it might be though. I removed mine when swapping from column shift to floor shift and never installed the new cable, I currently run mine with no interlock cable. I also replaced my column with one from a 5 speed so there was no provision for the cable anyways though.

I removed the shift interlock on a GM vehicle I own recently because the cable and floor shift are discontinued and it would get stuck and stay in ACC. Now you can turn that car off and take the key out in any gear. Doesn't really matter to me, I'm not going to let it roll away.
