Pete M
Trans switch in Power or comfort mode? Does it light up in Power mode? Also, there is a switch up near the top of the brake pedal. White with a pin sticking out the middle and resting on the pedal. You should not be able to see the pin unless the brake pedal is depressed. The switch is easily adjusted. The switch unlocks the torque converter whenever the brake pedal is depressed. Could a maladjusted switch, along with a wiggly pedal be an issue? Takes 2 minutes to check and adjust. could a 96 XJ also have this switch? mine drops out of gear sometimes when I come to a stop but no other time. deeswalker
The switch was off center a bit, still being compressed by the break pedal arm, but not fully. I corrected that, but haven't tested it out yet. Very easy to inspect and adjust. We shall see what changes may come. I would suspect if your 96 XJ has an AW4 it would have something real close to the same setup or the same setup. Worth a look.

The torque converter needs to get unlocked the instant the brake pedal is depressed.
deeswalker
Okay, finally drove the MJ around, and it still drops out of gear, did it driving down the freeway, last night. It down shifted up shifted and then it lost forward momentum and the RPM's shot way up because my foot was still on the pedal. It will drop back into gear when I take my foot off the pedal. It drives okay, sort of, after that.
