87MJTIM
Next week I will be getting an AX15 from a 98 XJ. What else should I get with it? I ALREADY HAVE AN AX15 AND MATCHING T-CASE FROM A 90 XJ. SO, PLEASE DON'T LIST A T-CASE. This ax15 has the external slave cylinder. (the other ax15 is the internal) I have requested the master, slave, shift fork and bellhousing. Should I ask for the for the presure plale and clutch? pilot bearing? cross member (see below)? anything else? BTW - the extra ax15 will go on an 84 CJ to replace a T5. Will the cross member fit the CJ? or will the existing cross member on the CJ fit the ax15?
mvusse
You can actually reuse your current AX15, just swapping over the bellhousing with the matching clutch release parts.
87MJTIM
I'm sorry. I should have been more clear. My MJ has on it currently the BA10/5 with the internal slave. I will swapt the AX15 w/ ext. slave for the BA10 (and the t-cases). The AX15 with the internal will go on the CJ.
mvusse
You might need a pilot bearing, but the stock one may not fit. I think maybe Pete had this problem and might know what you need that works.
desertmike
Done this twice now. You will need this http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/716164--pilot-bushing-750quot-id-x-1818quot-od/ and get the cross member, tcas shift linkage and alltho not really needed but get the drive shaft. I also got the slave and hose from Advance to make it easy.
Blue XJ
I know you said not to mention it, but the tcase in your 90 is more than likely a 21 spline input whereas your new ax15 has a 23 spline output , so you will either need a new tcase or at least the input gear. I'm doing the same thing now, taking my AW4 out of my 90 and installing an AX15 from a 98.
87MJTIM
Blue XJ (with a green MJ), It is my understanding that when the BA10 was discontinued for the AX15 that the t-case was changed to a 23 spline. Of course, I have not gone out and counted the splines ;)
Blue XJ
I used to have a Blue XJ, a 90 in fact. I have the running gear from it in my MJ right now. I must have misread your post, I thought you were swapping parts from different years and missed that the 90 was also an AX15. You should be all set, any year AX15 should have the 23 spline output. The different year AX15's will have different sized input shafts, so depending on which one you use, will determine which pilot bearing you'll need. I'd probably grab the crossmember and the front driveshaft as well, since they could be different lengths than the BA10 you currently have.
