oldseddie Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I need to find a left side plate as when I replaced the shocks, the pin that locates the bottom shock mount is partially rusted away making it loose fitting. I have a dana 44 if they are different.
mvusse Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 There is no difference between axles, but which one is left and which one is right depends on wheel base. lwb locates the shocks in front of the axle, swb locates the shocks behind. So a left hand one for a swb is the same as the right hand one for a lwb.
MJRemi Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Wheelbase length doesn't matter. You can flip the plates around from the opposite side either way.
mvusse Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 No you can't. If the pin is in front of the axle on the left hand side it will be behind the axle flipped over to the right hand side.
Kkilmer87 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Think I have a set pm me you email ill send pics
MJRemi Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 No you can't. If the pin is in front of the axle on the left hand side it will be behind the axle flipped over to the right hand side. Exactly! If you don't want the pin on the opposite side of the axle, then keep it on the original position. The plates are the same. It's where they are mounted which determines if the shock mount is forward or aft of the axle, not the wheelbase. I've had several sets of shock mount plates from SB and LB and have seen no difference.
mvusse Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 The left and right plates are different. One is mirror image of the other. Long wheel base comanches have the shocks mounted in front of the axle, and the plates are installed with the pin in front of the axle. Short wheel base comanches have the shocks mounted behind the axle, and the plates are installed with the pin behind the axle. Therefore, a long wheel base left side plate is the same as a short wheel base right side plate. And obviously also, a long wheel base right side plate is the same as a short wheel base left side plate. So if you say "left side" without specifying wheel base, we don't know which one is needed.
oldseddie Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 I'm still looking for a clean left side SWB shock mount if anyone wants to part with one.
