jimoshel
I recently picked up a 1993 2.8 engine from a '93 S10. Upon checking the only engine for '93 S10 was the 4.3. I got this engine to replace the busted one in my '86 MJ. How can I identify this engine for sure? Haynes is no help. :dunno:
GirsMJ86
4.7 for a '93 S-10? Didn't think that was an option. I know they could be gotten with the 2.5 I4, 2.8 60* V6, or 4.3 90* V6. They were all TBI and the 4.3 could also be got in CPI which net the vehicle about 20 more hp or so IIRC.
1987Comanche
TBI 4.3 (90 deg V6) has ribbed valve covers with center bolts to retain them. The 60 degree V6 valve covers have bolts in the corners. The 4.3 TBI water pump is the classic SBC "mickey mouse" water pump that goes over the timing cover. Also the alternator on the TBI 4.3 is top driver's side... If you've looked at a TBI SBC you'll recognize the 4.3 instantly...it's the 350 with 2 cylinders lopped off.
jimoshel
According to Google, they did make a 60* 2.8 V6 in 1993, and apparently that's what I have. Tnx for the input guys.
mpace6a
Thats what I swapped into my 86, a newer 2.8 out of an s10. Swapped essentially every accessory, intake, timing cover, valve covers, water pump, oil pan etc, because, while the blocks are the same, everything else was changed when they switched the tbi, and I didnt want to switch to tbi. Though in hindsight it may have been a better idea... Regardless, the newer block castings solved the oil flow issue in the lower end, so you don't spin a bearing like my original engine did!
