Name's Eric, I opened an account here a couple of year ago, when I was looking for an MJ, but got suckered into a Big block chevy dually....  long story short, I don't have the dually anymore, and I need a truck, this time, I'm going to get a 'Manche for sure. I want to get a 4x4 5 speed 4.0, but I would settle for the right 2.5 or 2.8 truck though.

hopefully by the end of the year I've got one. other then pulling the carpet to check for rust, and the master cylinder/fuse block, any other important tips to know?

Thanks-

Eric

Welcome back. Actually, all are welcome, MJ or not.

Best of luck on your search. You will find that the value of these trucks have appreciated quite a bit in the past few years.

Welcome back!

Speaking from experience, don't settle for a 2.8 truck unless your prepared to swap an engine in, deal with carb issues, vacuum issues, and an over all lack of power and efficiency. I know cuz i bought one....

yeah, and they're just as hard to find (if not a little harder...)

yeah, I know the 2.8's suck, but I would be doing an engine swap if I bought one with a 2.5 or 2.8. probably to either a 4.0, or a GM 3.9 pushrod V6 (with a few mods of coarse!)

Worth noting, there's a few folk here with lowly 2.8's with many miles up and no issues! Mine runs super smooth. I had more trouble with the tranny than the motor. Nice simple setup without all the electrical gremlins associated with FI and all its sensors. Yes the 4.0L is much better but don't ignore a good example with a 2.8 if that's what's on offer. Mine did a fine job of hauling until it retired when I bought a 4.0L looking for more power.

2.8's don't scare me a bit I know them fairly well, in fact, I know them much better then I know the 4.0, even still, I'd be doing a swap if I got one with a 2.5 or 2.8
