Hey guys been looking for a donor xj for 4wd parts for my Comanche, there is a 96 xj 4.0 manual with 350000 Km on it or 217479 miles for my american friends. My question is would something with this much mileage be worth buying for the drivetrain? The guys wants 500 bucks for the thing, apparently runs but needs starter. Came from out of province so he needs to get it inspected to get it insured here so that seems to be why he is selling it.

Depends on what your truck is now.  If you're already a 4.0 and 5 speed, it'd be an excellent donor, I wouldn't hesitate on that.

Find out why the rear shaft is out first, though.

96 may be problematic as that's one of the most PITA change over years for xj's. it's when they went from obd1 to obd2 and sometimes parts don't match up and have to be selected from earlier or later model years. to avoid having to redo alot of the firewall avoid the 97+ years i would stay with 91-95 for the easiest swap.

He said he's looking for a 4wd swap donor, not a 4.0 swap.  As long as he's already a 4.0 and keeping the Renix system, it'll be a great donor.  It will have literally every part he needs except the rear driveshaft, and he can do the brake booster upgrade as well.  Also a good time to swap in that 8.25 (if the XJ has one), since he needs to have a driveshaft made anyway.

Geonovast you are correct sir, that is exactly what I am looking for from the xj, going to look at it in a couple days. So cross my fingers it doesn't have any dark secrets like a missing trans :/ .
