Zebvance Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 installing my junk yard 8.8 and i drained all the fluid and going to put fresh stuff in it. from what i have looked up it takes 75w-140. My local auto parts store has it for $21.00 a bottle. and from what i have seen I'm going to need 4 maybe 4 1/2 quarts. I really didt expect to pay almost 100 bucks in diff fluid. So this is my question. They have 85w-140 for $8 a bottle. Can I run that? will it hurt the axle? It is the non limited slip so I know I don't need the friction modifier. Also its factory geared at 4.10. Thanks!
HOrnbrod Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 It only holds a hair over two quarts if you fill till it just runs out the filler plug. And 85w-140 will be fine if it's not limited slip.

Biotex Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I just filled mine and it held a full 2.75 quarts. Mine was the Explorer version Non LSD. I had drained it completely. Not sure why the discrepancy.
