drase
The MJ will start but once the idle gets to around 500 rpm it sputters and dies. I have tried to feather the gas pedal but once it drops to idle it cuts off. I can't move it more than 2 feet before it shuts down on me. Anyone have any ideas? 1989 Eliminator
Checking the CPS and TPS is usually a good start to this problem. Check Crusiers tips for instructions. The ground could need upgrading since the grounds on the MJ's are not that great. http://comancheclub.com/user/2838-cruiser54/ Go to his page and check out his tips
Geonovast
Actually I would blame a dirty/sticking IAC before anything else.
drase
Actually I would blame a dirty/sticking IAC before anything else. What's a "IAC"?
Geonovast
The IAC is the idle air controller. It's what lets a little bit of air in for idle when you're not touching the gas pedal. If it's shot or sticking, it won't let in any air, which is necessary for the motor to run. It's in the throttle body, next to the TPS. You can pull it out and clean it up with an old toothbrush and some O2 sensor safe throttle body cleaner.
Knucklehead97
I also recommend checking your cat and muffler on the exhaust. I was having a kinda similiar problem and it ended up being the truck not being able to breath from a exploded cat and puffed up muffler. Hope this helps. drase
Problem solved! Was a leaking fuel line, gas would leak on manifold. And fuel pump was replaced. She starts right up and no fuel smell!
