My mj didn't come with a tach so I got a digital after market one. It is telling me to slice the signal wire into the wireing that goes to the distributor. Now my question is which one? It doesn't say.

Not sure if the colors will be the same between the years but I can go look at mine and tell ya.

EDIT: Yours is probably different but on mine its the green/white wire coming from the coil.

The tach input hooks to the negative wire on the coil 12V input. On your 88 it should be green, but verify the polarity with a digital multimeter to be sure.

Yup that worked thanks guys. Got it all hooked up and started it and it turned on and read the rpm but about 3 of the LEDs in it were out. Smh..... Cheap china city products. Oh we'll, went ahead and ordered another one. At least it's all wired up now and ready just for plug and play when the new one comes in...

I looked at doing this but it was easier just to swap the custers...just something to think about. Idk how hard it is or what is needed on a 86 though

Not sure but I think 1991 is the cut off. I've swapped '86 thru '89 clusters with no problem. The electrical plugs are the same. Speedo cable is different but no biggy. Either swap the cable or the speedo.

Well what i did honestly didn't take more than 20-30

Mins. I spliced into the green/white wire going to the coil. Then split the power into the remote wire of the CD player and spliced the ground into the ground from the radio also.

Thats about how long it took to do mine too. pretty easy and quick. id say quicker than taking the dash bezel off and swapping clusters.
